Tech giants Google and Nvidia have made significant announcements about plans to increase their AI-related projects and investments in India, which is a major step towards speeding up the country’s AI landscape. This announcement was delivered after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 23, 2024.
As part of India’s digital future, the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given AI and new technologies top priority. This approach is in line with India’s larger objectives of developing into a worldwide hub for technology while encouraging innovation, job creation, and the advancement of AI skills.
Google’s AI Vision
Google has constantly recognized the potential of India’s expanding IT environment and talent pool. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has underlined the company’s dedication to AI research in India, particularly in fields like education, agriculture, and healthcare.
According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the Prime Minister has encouraged the company to produce and design products in India as part of his Digital India goal.
He also highlighted the significance of investing to support India’s transformation while highlighting the country’s infrastructure, which includes data centers, electricity, and energy. Pichai stated that Google is eager to receive additional contributions and is already investing significant money in AI in India.
“He has a clear vision, both in terms of the opportunity that AI will create, but he wants to make sure ultimately, AI is there to benefit the people of India and he has a clear vision, that it should all be in the service of people of India. He is challenging us to do more,” Pichai mentioned.
Nvidia’s AI Vision
Leading manufacturer of AI software and technology, Nvidia, has also committed to greatly increasing its footprint in India.
According to estimates, Huang’s Nvidia holds an 88 percent market share in the GPU area, which is in high demand worldwide for AI tasks.
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, noted that the Prime Minister has always been interested in learning about AI, including its potential and benefits for India, with a focus on graphics processing units (GPUs).
He has underlined how significant India is to the progress of AI globally, particularly in fields like deep learning, cloud computing, and machine learning.
“I have enjoyed so many meetings with the Prime Minister. He’s such an incredible student, and every time I see him, he wants to learn about technology, artificial intelligence, the potential and opportunity for India, the impact on India, society and industry,” Huang added.
Huang underlined that India has the third-largest startup industry in the world and that the work of the latest wave of entrepreneurs is mostly driven by artificial intelligence.

On the second day of Modi’s three-day tour to the US, this meeting was held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel on Sunday. The CEOs of US-based companies that specialize in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and semiconductors, engaged in a roundtable discussion with the Prime Minister.
With the support of Tech Giants, the Indian government has achieved a significant turning point in the country’s AI development.
